Born and raised in Bronx County, Mr. Weisman graduated from James Monroe High School (Class of 1949) and the University of Pennsylvania (Class of 1953) with honors in History. After serving in the U.S. Army as a Specialist 2nd Class (1953-1955), Mr. Weisman entered NYU Law School, graduating with the Class of 1958. He served as counsel to Empire Mutual Insurance Company (1959-1999), and has otherwise maintained an extensive private Personal Injury practice throughout his career. Mr. Weisman is admitted to practice in the Eastern District and the Southern District.
In 1996, he founded the law firm of Weisman & Calderon LLP, where his partners are his son, Richard Weisman, and his son-in-law, Carlos Calderón. He has long served as a member and mainstay of the Board of Directors of the Bronx County Bar Association, which awarded him its Outstanding Service Award in 1989 and an award for 50 years of membership, and practice, in 2008. In 2009, Mr. Weisman was honored by his peers as an exemplary lawyer and named Lawyer of the Year by the Institute of Jewish Humanities. He currently serves as a member of the Committee on Character and Fitness for the Appellate Division, First Department.
