Elder Law | Guardianship | Trusts and Estates

Weisman & Calderon LLP maintains an active Elder Law, Guardianship and Health Law practice. We represent family members concerned with the care management of elderly relatives or disabled young people, working hard to obtain the highest level of care for them, whether available privately or through public benefit programs. We can take the steps necessary to avoid court-ordered guardianships, or, if necessary, to initiate guardianship proceedings on behalf of those concerned with the well-being of people who are unable to care for themselves. We have access to a network of social workers, care planners, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals to whom we make referrals, and with whom we work to approach each and every matter in a comprehensive and multidisciplinary manner. We represent the trust department of a major national financial institution, and we also represent people of modest means seeking to preserve family resources while caring for themselves and their loved ones. Members of the firm have served on numerous occasions as Guardian of the Person and/or Property of Incapacitated Persons, Court Evaluator, Court-appointed counsel to Alleged Incapacitated Persons, Guardian ad Litem, Trustee/Co-Trustee of several Supplemental Needs Trusts, and Court-appointed Referee in matters before the both the Supreme and Surrogate's Courts. Richard S. Weisman, Esq. is a Court Examiner in the First and Second Departments. He is the Co-Chairperson of the Bronx County Bar Association Elder Law Committee, and a Director-elect of the Bronx County Bar Association. He is a member of the Elder Law, Health Law and Trusts and Estates Sections of the New York State Bar Association, the Elder Law and Trusts and Estates Committees of the Westchester County Bar Association, and the National Guardianship Association. He has lectured in programs relating to guardianship, elder law, trusts and estates, and related topics.
